Safety Center

Last updated: 15 March 2026

Your safety is our highest priority. Flare is designed with multiple layers of protection to keep you safe while connecting with others. This guide explains the tools available to you and best practices for staying safe.

Blocking Users

🚫

How to block someone

Visit the user's profile and tap Block. Blocked users cannot see your profile, message you, or interact with you in any way. They will not be notified that they've been blocked. You can manage your block list in Privacy Settings → Blocked Users.

Reporting

Flare makes it easy to report any content that makes you uncomfortable or violates our Community Guidelines. You can report:

👤

Profiles

Tap the report button on any profile. Select a reason: fake account, harassment, inappropriate content, underage user, or other concern.

💬

Messages

Long-press any message to report it. Reports include the message context so our team can review the conversation.

📷

Photos

Report inappropriate photos on profiles or shared through private albums. Our moderation team reviews all photo reports.

📍

Meetups

Report unsafe or misleading meetups from the meetup detail screen. Reports are reviewed and action is taken within 24 hours.

All reports are reviewed by our moderation team, typically within 24 hours. Reporter identities are always kept confidential.

Private Album Safety

🔒

Protecting your private content

Private albums are only visible to users you explicitly grant access to. You can revoke access at any time. Flare notifies you when someone views your shared album. Sharing, screenshotting, or redistributing someone else's private photos is a serious guideline violation that results in immediate account action.

Tips for private album safety:

  • Only share your album with people you trust
  • Review your album permissions regularly in Privacy Settings
  • Revoke access from anyone you no longer want to share with
  • Report any user who shares your private content without permission

Messaging Safety

Tips for safer conversations:

  • Take your time — don't feel pressured to share personal information quickly
  • Watch for red flags — be cautious of users who avoid video calls, ask for money, or pressure you
  • Don't share sensitive data — never share financial details, passwords, or your exact address in messages
  • Trust your instincts — if a conversation makes you uncomfortable, block and report
  • Use the app — keep conversations on Flare where our safety tools are available

Meeting Safely in Person

Always prioritise your personal safety when meeting someone from an online platform.

📍

Meet in public

Always choose a public, well-lit location for first meetings. A café, restaurant, or bar is a good choice.

📱

Tell someone

Let a trusted friend know where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to return.

🚗

Arrange your own transport

Drive yourself or use a ride service. Don't rely on the other person for transport to or from the meeting.

🚪

Have an exit plan

Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, leave. You don't owe anyone an explanation.

🍸

Watch your drink

Never leave your drink unattended and be cautious about accepting drinks from someone you've just met.

📞

Video call first

Consider a video call before meeting in person to verify the other person matches their profile.

Location Privacy

📍

Your location is protected

Flare never shows your exact location to other users. Only approximate distances are displayed (e.g. "350 m away"). You can toggle distance visibility off entirely in Privacy Settings → Location Privacy.

Additional location protections:

  • GPS coordinates are processed server-side and never exposed to other users
  • You can disable location services in your device settings at any time
  • Travel Mode and Passport Pass use city-level locations, not precise GPS

Verification & Trust Signals

Flare uses verification badges to help you identify trusted users:

  • Age confirmed — the user's age was verified through our selfie scan system
  • Fully verified — the user's identity and age have been confirmed with a Verified badge visible on their profile
  • Under review — the user has submitted verification documents that are being reviewed

While verification adds a layer of trust, it does not guarantee a person's intentions. Always exercise good judgement when interacting with anyone online.

Quick Exit

⚡

Instantly hide the app

Flare includes a Quick Exit feature that lets you instantly hide the app and display a safe screen. This can be activated by triple-tapping the screen or shaking your device. Configure Quick Exit in Privacy Settings → Safety Tools.

Community Moderation

Flare uses a combination of automated systems and human moderators to enforce our Community Guidelines:

  • AI content moderation — automatically scans public profile content for guideline violations
  • Human review — all user reports are reviewed by trained moderators
  • Device bans — permanently banned users cannot create new accounts on the same device
  • Proactive detection — automated systems identify suspicious patterns like mass messaging, bot activity, and ban evasion

If you're ever in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. Flare's safety tools supplement — but do not replace — local emergency resources.

For non-emergency safety concerns, use the Contact Support form or the in-app report tools.
