1. Introduction

Welcome to Flare. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Flare platform, including our website, web application, and any related services (collectively, the "Service").

Flare is a social discovery and dating platform designed to help adults connect with nearby people and communities. The platform is built with LGBTQ+ communities in mind but is inclusive and open to everyone.

By creating an account or using Flare, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

To use Flare, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be legally able to enter into a binding agreement
  • Not be prohibited from using the Service under applicable law
  • Not have been previously banned from the platform

Flare uses an AI-powered age verification system during registration. Users estimated to be between 18 and 24 years of age may be required to submit government-issued identification for additional verification. Users estimated to be under 18 are blocked from creating an account.

3. Account Creation

You may create an account using your email address, Apple ID, or Google account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update such information as necessary. Flare reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that contain false or misleading information.

4. User Responsibilities

As a Flare user, you agree to:

  • Use the Service in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Treat other users with respect and dignity
  • Not use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent purpose
  • Not harass, threaten, or intimidate other users
  • Not create multiple accounts or impersonate another person
  • Not use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to access the Service
  • Not attempt to circumvent any security features or access restrictions

5. User Content

You retain ownership of content you post on Flare, including photos, text, and profile information. By posting content, you grant Flare a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display, and distribute that content within the Service for the purpose of operating the platform.

You are solely responsible for the content you share. Content must comply with our Community Guidelines. Flare reserves the right to remove content that violates these Terms or our Guidelines without prior notice.

Public profile content

Profile photos and public-facing information must not contain explicit nudity, hate symbols, violence, or content that violates the dignity of others. Profiles are visible to other users and must be appropriate for public display.

Private content

Flare provides private messaging and private album features. Content shared privately between consenting adults is the responsibility of the users involved. Flare does not actively monitor private messages but may review content in response to reports.

6. Messaging

Flare provides real-time messaging between users. You agree not to use the messaging system to:

  • Send unsolicited commercial or promotional messages (spam)
  • Share content that is illegal, harmful, or abusive
  • Harass, threaten, or stalk other users
  • Solicit personal financial information or engage in scams
  • Distribute malware or malicious links

Premium subscribers have access to additional messaging features including read receipts, message editing, message deletion, and emoji reactions.

7. Meetups & Map

Important: Meetups on Flare are entirely user-generated events. Flare does not organize, verify, supervise, or endorse any meetup. Users who create or attend meetups do so entirely at their own risk.

The Flare Map displays LGBTQ+ friendly venues and user-created meetups. Venues are identified through automated classification and may not always be accurate. Flare does not guarantee the accuracy, safety, or suitability of any venue or meetup displayed on the Map.

Users who create meetups are responsible for the accuracy of the information they provide. Flare is not liable for any harm, loss, or damage arising from attendance at any meetup.

8. Promoted Profiles

Flare allows certain verified accounts to operate as Promoted Profiles to advertise external services. Promoted Profiles are subject to additional restrictions:

  • Must be verified accounts
  • Cannot display explicit nudity or sexual content
  • Cannot display pricing or conduct direct financial transactions within Flare
  • Users must contact promoted accounts through chat or external links

Flare does not endorse, verify, or guarantee any service advertised through Promoted Profiles. Users interact with Promoted Profiles at their own risk.

9. Subscriptions & Payments

Flare offers three subscription tiers:

  • Free (£0) — Core features including Grid and Swipe discovery, messaging with local users, LGBTQ+ venue map, filters, and favourites
  • Plus (£6/month) — All Free features plus: see all likes and visitors, unlimited discovery, unlimited meetups
  • Premium (£8/month) — All Plus features plus: Stealth Mode, Incognito browsing, read receipts, message editing/deletion, Passport Pass, Travel Mode, ad-free experience, priority placement, emoji reactions, profile personalisation

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the end of the current billing period. You may cancel at any time; your subscription benefits will remain active until the end of the paid period.

Prices may change with reasonable notice. Refund eligibility is subject to applicable platform policies (App Store, Google Play, or web).

10. Boost Purchases

Boosts are one-time purchases that temporarily increase your profile visibility in discovery. Boosts are available in three durations (30 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours) and sold in packs (1, 3, or 10 Boosts). Boosts are non-refundable once activated. Purchased Boosts do not expire until used.

11. Advertising & Rewarded Ads

Free users may encounter rewarded ads that unlock certain features temporarily, such as messaging users in other cities or extending the discovery limit. Watching rewarded ads is voluntary and limited to 3 per day.

Plus and Premium subscribers do not see rewarded ads. Premium subscribers enjoy a fully ad-free experience.

12. Location Services

Flare uses your device's location to show nearby profiles, venues, and meetups. Location data is processed to display approximate distances only — your exact location is never shared with other users.

You may disable location services at any time through your device settings, but this may limit the functionality of the Service.

13. Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy for detailed information about how we collect, use, and protect your data.

14. Account Suspension & Termination

Flare may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms or our Community Guidelines. Grounds for suspension include but are not limited to:

  • Harassment, hate speech, or abusive behaviour
  • Creating fake or impersonation accounts
  • Sharing illegal content
  • Engaging in fraud, scams, or financial exploitation
  • Repeated violations of Community Guidelines
  • Circumventing bans or suspensions

Terminated accounts may result in device-level bans preventing the creation of new accounts on the same device. Flare is not obligated to provide a reason for termination where doing so would compromise platform safety.

You may delete your account at any time through the app settings. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed.

15. Limitation of Liability

Flare is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • Flare is not responsible for the behaviour of any user, on or off the platform
  • Flare is not liable for any harm arising from meetups, venue visits, or interactions facilitated through the Service
  • Flare does not guarantee the accuracy of user profiles, verification status, or venue information
  • Flare's total liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law.

16. Policy Updates

Flare may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
